Union, New Jersey — All four operating companies that make up the O.Berk family of businesses have been recognized by EcoVadis, the world's most trusted provider of business sustainability ratings. Kols Containers Inc and O.Berk West LLC have each earned the Platinum Medal, placing them in the top 1% of companies assessed by EcoVadis in the prior twelve months. The O.Berk Company LLC and O.Berk Company of New England LLC have each earned the Gold Medal, placing them in the top 5%. Every operating entity in the O.Berk family now holds a top-tier EcoVadis medal — a reflection of the standards we hold ourselves to in environmental responsibility, ethical practices, and corporate social responsibility (CSR).

EcoVadis Medal

What is the EcoVadis Rating?

The EcoVadis rating is a globally recognized standard for sustainability assessment. It evaluates companies across a spectrum of CSR criteria, including environmental impact, labor practices, human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. Established to promote transparency and accountability in global supply chains, the EcoVadis platform provides a comprehensive assessment framework that enables businesses to measure and continuously improve their sustainability performance.

Medals are awarded based on a company's overall score relative to all other companies assessed by EcoVadis in the prior twelve months:

  • Platinum Medal — Top 1%
  • Gold Medal — Top 5%
  • Silver Medal — Top 15%
  • Bronze Medal — Top 35%

Significance of Recognition Across All Four Companies

Each O.Berk operating company is assessed independently — against its own operations, supply chain, and management systems. Receiving Platinum recognition at Kols Containers and O.Berk West, and Gold recognition at The O.Berk Company and O.Berk Company of New England, demonstrates that sustainability is not concentrated in one location or business unit. It is embedded across the family. For our customers and partners, that means the commitment they see in one O.Berk relationship is the same commitment they will find at every door in our organization.

A Family-Wide Milestone

This recognition reflects sustained investment across the family in carbon reduction, supplier engagement, ethical sourcing, and employee welfare programs. The 2026 results at a glance:

  • The O.Berk Company LLC — Gold Medal (Top 5%), valid through April 2027
  • O.Berk Company of New England LLC — Gold Medal (Top 5%), valid through April 2027
  • Kols Containers Inc — Platinum Medal (Top 1%), valid through January 2027
  • O.Berk West LLC — Platinum Medal (Top 1%)

"Achieving EcoVadis recognition at all four of our operating companies demonstrates to our customers and partners that sustainability isn't just a priority for one part of our business — it's fundamental to how we operate across the entire O.Berk family. When companies choose to work with any of our businesses, they're partnering with a team that shares their commitment to environmental responsibility and ethical practices."

— Jessie Kressen, Director of Marketing and Business Development

Core Areas of Achievement

The EcoVadis methodology assesses companies across four core themes. Our medals reflect strength in each:

  • Environmental Impact: Programs targeting emissions reduction, energy efficiency, sustainable material sourcing, and circular packaging innovation.
  • Labor & Human Rights: A workplace culture rooted in safety, inclusion, diversity, and respect. Each of our companies maintains strict labor standards across its operations and supply chain.
  • Ethical Business Conduct: Robust policies ensuring transparency, anti-corruption measures, and stakeholder accountability in business operations.
  • Sustainable Procurement: Deep partnerships with suppliers who uphold shared values around environmental and social responsibility, ensuring ethical sourcing from start to finish.

"Earning EcoVadis medals at every one of our operating companies reflects our unwavering commitment to integrating sustainability throughout every aspect of our operations and supply chain. It validates the comprehensive approach we've taken to environmental stewardship, ethical business practices, and sustainable packaging innovation. As we continue to lead in sustainable packaging solutions, this achievement reinforces our dedication to our customers, partners, and the communities we serve."

— Marc Gaelen, President and CEO

A Vision for the Future

Looking ahead, the O.Berk family of companies remains firmly committed to advancing sustainability within the packaging industry. We continue to invest in research, partnerships, and product innovation that align with circular economy principles and that support both our own and our clients' environmental goals. As climate concerns, social responsibility, and ethical business practices grow increasingly urgent, we see these EcoVadis medals not as a finish line, but as a launching point for even greater impact across every part of our business.

EcoVadis medals and badges recognize companies that have completed the EcoVadis assessment process and demonstrated a relatively strong management system that addresses sustainability criteria, as outlined in the EcoVadis methodology.

An EcoVadis medal or badge is NOT a certification or an endorsement of a company or its products or services, and it does not indicate that the company's products or services are specifically sustainable or more sustainable than another company's products or services.
